The full lineup at a glance
Apple's Kenyan shelf right now spans roughly KES 89,000 to over KES 500,000. Prices below are compiled from Phones Store Kenya, Price Point, Apple Center KE, iTey Store, Mobile Hub Kenya, Avechi and Smartworld Kenya listings checked in late September 2026; figures marked approximate are estimates where live listings are thin.
| Model | Chip | Display | Cameras | US price | Kenya price (KES) | Verdict |

| iPhone 17 | A19 | 6.3" LTPO OLED, 120Hz ProMotion | 48MP Dual Fusion + 48MP ultra-wide | $899 | KES 122,500 – 143,000 | The sweet spot for most Kenyan buyers |

Note the missing names: there is no plain iPhone 18 or 18e yet. Apple moved to a split launch — Pro and foldable models in September/October, the affordable models in spring 2027. The iPhone 17 and iPhone Air are carrying the mainstream shelf until then.
Every model, honestly assessed
iPhone 17e — the budget entry
KES 89,000 – 107,000Launched March 2026, the 17e runs the same A19 chip as the iPhone 17 but with one fewer GPU core, a single 48MP camera and a 6.1-inch 60Hz display. You lose ProMotion, the ultra-wide lens and the Dynamic Island elegance, but you keep iOS 27, Apple Intelligence, MagSafe and years of updates. Kenyan listings run from about KES 89,000 at Phones Store Kenya to KES 107,000 elsewhere — check warranty terms, as 'Dubai warranty' units price lower than East Africa warranty stock.
iPhone 16 — the leftover
KES 95,000 – 120,000 (approximate)Apple still sells the 2024 iPhone 16 at $799, but at that price it makes little sense next to the 17e unless you specifically want the ultra-wide camera and the brighter colour options. Where it does make sense is discounted local stock — if a Kenyan shop has it near 17e money, grab it; the A18 with Apple Intelligence support will be updated for years.
iPhone 17 — the one most people should buy
KES 122,500 – 143,000Last year's standard model finally got a 120Hz ProMotion display, the 48MP Dual Fusion camera system, the 18MP Center Stage selfie camera and 30-hour video playback on the A19 chip. Apple kept it in the lineup at $899 and it is the default recommendation: nearly everything that matters at almost half the Pro's local price.
iPhone Air — the design statement
KES 116,000 – 170,000At 5.6mm and 165g with a titanium frame, the Air is the thinnest iPhone ever — and the compromises show: a single 48MP camera, weaker 27-hour battery and eSIM-only worldwide. It suits buyers who value the feel-in-hand above all else. Kenyan pricing varies wildly (KES 116,000 to 170,000) because import volumes are low — shop around.
iPhone 18 Pro / Pro Max — the flagships
KES 200,000 – 340,000The new Pro pair bring the 2nm A20 Pro, a variable-aperture 48MP main camera, a smaller Dynamic Island and battery life up to 45 hours on the Max. Both come in black, silver, glacier and burgundy with 256GB to 2TB. We cover them in depth in our dedicated guide — the short version is that the 18 Pro is the best complete iPhone you can buy in Kenya right now.
iPhone Duo — the foldable
KES 299,999 – 515,000Apple's first foldable opens into a 7.6-inch canvas with a 5.4-inch cover screen, Touch ID instead of Face ID, no telephoto camera and eSIM-only SIM support. Ships October 23, 2026; Kenyan shops are taking deposits at roughly KES 300,000+. Stunning engineering, first-generation risk.
iPhone 17 Pro / Pro Max — discontinued but worth hunting
KES 152,000 – 293,000Apple pulled the 17 Pro pair from its own store in September, but Kenyan retailers still list stock — from about KES 152,000 for a 17 Pro to KES 293,000 for a top-spec Pro Max. You get the same 48MP 4x telephoto hardware as the 18 Pro at a serious discount. While stock lasts, this is the enthusiast value play.
iPhone 16e and older — used/refurb territory
KES 45,000 – 75,000 used (approximate)The 16e has been replaced by the 17e but floods the used market alongside the 15, 14 and 13 series. These are the backbone of Kenya's ex-UK and ex-US import trade — excellent value if you know how to check them, which we cover below.

The used and ex-UK market: how to buy safely
A huge share of iPhones sold in Kenya are used UK and US imports — graded handsets that offer flagship hardware at mid-range prices. Done right, an ex-UK iPhone 15 Pro at KES 70,000 embarrasses a new phone at the same price. Done wrong, you inherit a locked, worn-out brick. Run this checklist in the shop, in front of the seller:
Battery health and cycle count
Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging. Anything at 85%+ maximum capacity is good; below 80% means a degraded battery and Apple considers it due for service. Cycle count under ~500 is ideal for a daily driver.
Activation Lock / Find My
Power the phone on and confirm it is signed OUT of the previous owner's iCloud. A phone asking for someone else's Apple ID is stolen or still locked — walk away, it is a brick.
IMEI and blacklist status
Dial *#06# for the IMEI, match it to the SIM tray/box, and check it on imei.info or a blacklist checker. Confirm the model number — 'A' numbers reveal the region and whether it is eSIM-only.
Parts and service history
On iOS 15.2+, Settings > General > About shows Parts and Service History — it flags genuine vs third-party or 'unknown' screens, batteries and cameras. Unknown parts are common on refurbs; at least know what you are paying for.
True Tone and Face ID
Missing True Tone usually means a screen was swapped poorly. Test Face ID enrollment on the spot — face-recognition faults are expensive or impossible to fix.
Grading honesty
Kenyan sellers grade ex-UK stock loosely ('A grade', 'mint', 'like new'). Inspect edges and camera rings under light, check for screen burn by opening a white page, and test the charging port and speakers before paying.
One Kenya-specific check: confirm whether the unit is a US model, because those have been eSIM-only since the iPhone 14. It is not a dealbreaker — Safaricom and Airtel both do eSIM — but an eSIM-only phone cannot take a borrowed physical SIM, and resale to buyers who insist on a tray is harder.
Import duty, taxes and why Kenyan prices are higher
Why does a $1,199 iPhone 18 Pro cost KES 200,000+ locally when the exchange rate alone suggests ~KES 155,000? The gap is the import stack: 16 percent VAT, excise duty on imported phones, import declaration fees and railway levy, plus shipping, insurance and the retailer's margin. All-in, expect local pricing to land roughly 25–35 percent above a straight currency conversion (the exact figure depends on how a shipment is declared — treat this as an approximate range, not a tariff quote).
This is also why hand-carried phones bought in Dubai or London can be cheaper — but you carry the customs risk on entry, get no local warranty, and must handle any faults yourself. For most buyers the KES 15,000–30,000 premium at a reputable Kenyan shop is fair payment for a receipt, a warranty and a place to return to.
eSIM in Kenya: what actually works
Both Kenyan carriers support eSIM on iPhones. Safaricom sells eSIM QR codes at its retail shops — KES 150 for prepaid swaps, KES 250 for a new line, free for postpay — and you need your original national ID or passport. Airtel Kenya activates eSIM at its shops the same way. Dial *#06# on any phone: if an EID number appears, the device is eSIM-capable.
Practical notes: activation needs a Wi-Fi or cellular connection for the QR download; iOS 26+ can transfer an eSIM from Android to iPhone on supported carriers; and an iPhone stores eight or more eSIMs with two active at once — handy for a Safaricom + Airtel dual-line setup or a travel eSIM when roaming. If you buy an eSIM-only US import, do the carrier swap before you wipe your old phone.
Which iPhone should you buy?
Best for most people: iPhone 17
120Hz ProMotion, dual 48MP cameras, 30-hour battery and iOS 27 for around KES 122,000 – 143,000. Ninety percent of the flagship experience at sixty percent of the price.
Best on a budget: iPhone 17e
Brand-new, warranted, A19-powered and Apple Intelligence-ready from ~KES 89,000. Safer than any used phone at this price.
Best camera: iPhone 18 Pro
Variable-aperture 48MP main, 4x/8x telephoto, ProRes RAW and Pro controls. ~KES 200,000+ — worth it if the camera is the reason you are upgrading.
Best battery & screen: iPhone 18 Pro Max
45-hour video playback on a 6.9-inch display. Heavy, expensive, unmatched for power users and travellers.
Best value flagship: iPhone 17 Pro (clearance)
Discontinued but still stocked locally from ~KES 152,000 — same telephoto hardware as the 18 Pro for tens of thousands less.
Best for early adopters: iPhone Duo
A 7.6-inch foldable iPhone at ~KES 300,000. Incredible, impractical, unforgettable — in that order for most people.
Channels, warranty and payment tips for Kenya
There is no official Apple Store in Kenya, so after-sales comes from resellers and Apple-authorized service providers. Reputable names with physical shops include iTey Store, Phones Store Kenya, Phone Place Kenya, Avechi, Mobile Hub Kenya, Price Point, Smartworld Kenya and Apple Center KE — most offer 12-month shop warranties, same-day Nairobi delivery and countrywide courier shipping.
On payment: lipa pole pole / lipa mdogo mdogo instalment plans are standard at most Nairobi phone shops, trade-ins of older iPhones are widely accepted, and some shops split pricing by warranty type — "Dubai warranty" (UAE-sourced units serviced abroad) prices lower than "East Africa warranty" stock. Decide which you are paying for before you compare prices across shops, and always get the IMEI on the receipt.

FAQs
Which iPhone is best value for money in Kenya in 2026?
The iPhone 17 at roughly KES 122,500 to 143,000 is the best value: it has a 120Hz ProMotion display, dual 48MP cameras, the A19 chip and 30-hour battery life. If your budget is tighter, the iPhone 17e from about KES 89,000 is the cheapest brand-new iPhone and gets the same iOS 27 features.
Is it safe to buy an ex-UK or refurbished iPhone in Kenya?
Yes, if you check it properly: verify battery health is above 85%, confirm the phone is signed out of iCloud (no Activation Lock), check the IMEI against blacklist databases, inspect Parts and Service History in Settings > General > About, and test Face ID, True Tone and the charging port before paying. Buy from shops that offer a written warranty, even a short one.
Do iPhones sold in Kenya support eSIM on Safaricom and Airtel?
Yes. Safaricom sells eSIM QR codes at its shops (KES 150 for prepaid, free for postpay) and Airtel Kenya activates eSIM in-store with your national ID. This matters because the iPhone Air and iPhone Duo are eSIM-only worldwide, and US-imported 17 Pro and 18 Pro units are also eSIM-only — so you need an eSIM-capable carrier regardless.
How much is iPhone import duty in Kenya?
Kenyan smartphone imports attract a combination of VAT (16%), excise duty and import declaration fees that together typically add on the order of 25 to 35 percent to the landed cost — the exact figure varies with how the shipment is declared. This is why local prices sit well above US sticker prices, and why hand-carried phones from Dubai or the UK can undercut local shops (though with no local warranty).
When is the iPhone 18 coming out — should I wait?
Apple split the iPhone 18 launch: the 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max and iPhone Duo came out in September/October 2026, while the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2 are expected in spring 2027 (March–April), per Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. If you want a mainstream model under ~$900, waiting a few months is reasonable; if you need a phone now, the iPhone 17 is already excellent.
Where can I buy a genuine iPhone in Kenya?
Reputable options include established Nairobi retailers such as iTey Store, Phones Store Kenya, Phone Place Kenya, Avechi, Mobile Hub Kenya, Price Point and Smartworld Kenya, plus Apple-authorized resellers. Always verify the IMEI, check Apple's coverage checker for activation status, confirm whether the unit is nano-SIM or eSIM-only, and insist on a receipt with the IMEI printed on it.
